Sintra

This weekend we rented motor scooters with three teachers we've met and took a trip to Sintra. We drove along the western coast of Portugal then winded our way through single lane mountain roads to arrive at the Castle of the Moors. The Castelo dos Mouros was built in the ninth century on a peak of a mountain near the town of Sintra. Walking around the castle, then visiting the town below, made for an excellent day.

Getting Settled in Cascais

These beautiful beans were one of our first market purchases. Most likely, they are runner beans, they tasted pretty good!

Our back porch with laundry hanging to dry - so far an effective system though people insist the winters are quite damp.

We enjoyed dinner at the Estoril artisan's fair with some other teachers.

Praia da Ribeira is the beach closest to our house. It is where local fishermen dock their boats each evening. For the past ten days, booths and food carts have been set up for the annual Festas do Mar - Festival of the Sea. The festival includes nightly concerts.
